It turns out the recent BDH article about the Underground’s 10 health code violations was actually just a teaser for their new Halloween menu! The Warm Milk and Cobweb Latte is this season’s hottest (or should I say lukewarm-est) drink, served at a perfect 46°F—just the right temperature for bacteria to thrive.
“We’re really trying to create an inclusive space here,” said Alicia Squalor ’26, co-manager of the Underground. “All identities and cultures are welcome at the Underground, including microbial life.”
When asked about the inspiration for the drink, Squalor said, “Cobwebs have always been part of our DIY, grungy aesthetic. We figured, why not lean into that just in time for Halloween? The Warm Milk and Cobweb Latte pairs perfectly with the Underground’s signature dim lighting and exposed brick walls, which haven’t been cleaned since 2008.”
Other thrilling menu items include the Rat Droppings Croissant and the Dusty Chai, both made in the same conditions that earned them those 10 health code violations.
Student reactions have been mixed. “Warm milk? Cobwebs? Whatever. As long as it’s seasonal, I’ll drink it,” said Riley Campbell ’27. “I’m not really a germaphobe.”
Others, like Allison Carioti ’25, are a bit more cautious. “It’s a little unsettling hygiene-wise,” she said. “I mean, cobwebs in a latte? That’s straight-up narsty.”
So if you’re in the mood for a fun, innovative, seasonal drink, head to the Underground! Cleanliness not guaranteed.
