When I arrived at college this fall, the front of my laptop was an empty canvas, just waiting to be filled. “But with what shall I fill it?” I pondered nervously. “No one on this campus knows anything about me—my laptop must make an incredible first impression!”
There’s nothing wrong with being a minimalist and leaving your laptop sticker-less, but that also doesn’t tell the rest of the world anything about you. And personally, I think it would be a waste of space not to start filling it up with stickers.
Crafting the perfect laptop aesthetic is a delicate art form, however. And the process of choosing a sticker should not be rushed. Once the adhesive touches your computer, you’re committed to this sticker (commitment level: somewhere between buying a new pair of shoes and getting a tattoo). So the stickers have to be good, and they have to send the right message.
Much like the ultimate profile picture, your stickers should express how bold and well-rounded you are, while also maintaining an air of mystery. When people’s eyes sweep over the stickers as you sit in a coffee shop, they should be drawn in by hints of your many unique and quirky interests.
The obscure band logo in the top right corner tells them that you like music. But are you just a hardcore fan or the lead guitarist? Bam. Instant potential rock star status.
The sticker centered on your Apple logo answers the Mac vs. PC question, but it also says so much more. Did you go the Disney route? The apple pun route? Come on people, this is important. You are making your mark on the world.
A “The Rib” sticker front and center. So chic. So elegant. So intriguing. Are you our biggest fan or one of the funny girls herself?
From Pinterest boards to Etsy shops, there are endless sticker options available to you. And you should definitely take your time perusing them before making any purchases. Because each sticker can make or break your image. Will it say “I’m the sticker master,” or “I bought this sticker at 3 AM?” It’s your choice, so make it a good one.
