Straight Outta Pinterest

There is no better feeling than taking Sharpie to canvas. I don’t feel anything but existential bliss when my gold marker glides perfectly along the surface, as if I’m painting with gold leaf. I look at my work, and admire how my golden doodles work in harmony with the robin’s egg blue background: an almost exact replica of a Pinterest masterpiece. A single tear forms in the corner of my eye. These are the intense feelings of a true artist.

I truly feel that I have found my calling in doodling. Let’s take a look at one of my earlier works.

I call this Flowers on English Essay in felt pen on printer paper.

I feel that these flowers really represent the motif in my essay – which was a biography on one of my friends. The flowers represent the growth of her life, budding just like these flowers. This piece is actually really emotional for me.

My next piece is called Flower on Computer in permanent marker on silicon computer case.

I feel that the flower really juxtaposes with the technological aspect of the medium. It represents how even in this age of technology, we should appreciate the natural elements of our world.

My last piece I will be showing is called Pile O’ Doodles on Kitchen Table in Sharpie on printer paper.

I feel that this presents how the hardships of life just pile up on you. However, since these are flowers, they symbolize that either these hardships can be beautiful or that these hardships can end in beauty – that’s left for the viewer to decide.

Right now, I’m working on a new collection called Gifts for My Little – this is in reference to the sorority tradition of having an older member making gifts and crafts for new members. I would show you all my work I have done so far, but sneak previews are against my morals as an artistè. My art is only worthy of being shown in its best condition.

I think my art is really taking off. I get a lot of compliments, so I think that constitutes that I should make a career out of this. Yes, I love pursuing an English degree here at Brown, but I think this is a sign I need to drop out and transfer to RISD. The world needs to see my flower doodles. I also do more than just this design – I also love drawing my name in bubble letters. My art is more than just doodling; it’s a lifestyle. And you heard it here first – doodles will be sweeping the nation. All done by yours truly, Allie Greenberg: doodler extraordinaire.
