A few weeks ago, filled with the selfish completely legitimate desire to pamper myself, I wandered into the Urban Outfitters on Thayer Street and headed straight for their Beauty area. Though I had entered with the intention of picking up a few cool face masks and products to create my own “stay at home spa day,” once there I discovered an interesting product that completely caught my interest.
The product: Kocostar Foot Therapy. According to its official product description on UrbanOutfitters.com, Kocostar Foot Therapy is an exfoliant that leaves skin super-soft thanks to 33 botanical essences that soothe and hydrate. Just slip your feet into the magic-filled packs, tape them up and wear them for 60-90 minutes. (You can even walk around in them – indoors, of course…) Once time’s up, rinse with warm water and be amazed at the instant, amazing and long-lasting softness of your skin! Created by Kocostar, a brand that specializes in providing intense treatment wraps, from everyday damage care to area-specific treatments.
Like many people who live their life atop the ever glamorous College Hill, my feet have taken quite a toll due to the insane amount of walking I do on a daily basis. Thus, I was sold on the description (both literally and figuratively) and decided to try out these babies the following weekend.
The process itself is simple. The “magic-filled packs” sort of resemble sandwich bags, which you wrap and tape your feet into:
Disclaimer: Not my actual feet.
After waiting for about an hour and a half, I removed the tape and sandwich bags packs from my feet and rinsed off the product.
The following recounts my daily endeavors following the usage of these “magic-filled packs”:
Day 1: Feet feel and look extra clean, but beyond that nothing else has really changed.
Day 2: No change. Should they have started peeling by now?
Day 3: Still no peeling. Have I done the process right? Have I wasted my hard earned $8 on two useless sandwich bags?
Day 4: HOLY SHIT. THE SKIN ON MY HEELS IS SHEDDING LIKE A SNAKE.
Day 5: My bed and dorm room floor are now starting to fill with tiny pieces of dead skin. I’d better change my sheets and get a vacuum. Who knew that there could be so much dead skin between your toes?
Day 6: Peeling has extended beyond my heels and toes to the bottoms of both of my feet. Feeling #blessed that I decided to do this during one of the colder months, aka post-sandal and flip flop season.
Day 7: Peeling has now reached the top part of my feet. Wishing the dead skin didn’t come off in tiny pieces; it would be a lot easier (and quicker) to just peel off larger bits of dead skin.
Day 8: Bottom of foot has stopped peeling. Currently scrubbing my soles to get rid of any remaining dead skin.
Day 9: Top of the foot looks about done as well. Scrubbing them as well.
Day 10: And it looks like we’re done!
The Aftermath: All the dead topmost layers of the tops of my feet have been cleared, leaving behind two very luminous and lovely feet (on the top side, at least). Regarding the bottoms of my feet, the few callouses I have on my heels are unfortunately still there, but the skin around them has become extremely smooth. A small price to pay for the silky soft foot arches I now have!
