Big names like Ted Lasso‘s Jason Sudeikis and The Crown‘s Olivia Colman may have dominated the 2021 Emmys. But just as breathtaking was the performance of Edwin Stock, a senior at Brown University, who took home the award of “Best Supporting Actor” for his performance in Caring About CS-Econ.
“It was one of the hardest roles I’ve ever encountered. And I played Troy Bolton in my high school’s production of High School Musical,” said Stock. “The key for me was looking right into my fellow Brown students’ eyes as I said the CS-Econ signature line: ‘I promise, I will NEVER sell out.'”
But life was not always easy for Stock. In fact, he grew up a middle school bully. “It was hard,” he confessed. “My teachers hated me. Probably because I spent class making fun of the kids who ate lunch with the librarians. But someone had to roast ’em! Anyway. The teachers only liked the quiet girls who were good at English. It was outright discrimination.” He began to tear up as he reminisced, “But then I found Brown’s CS-Econ program, and I knew that I had somewhere I belonged. I had something to work towards.”
And work he did. By seventh grade, he was auditioning for Disney Channel’s Changing the Industry, and in high school, he guest starred on shows such as It’s About More Than the Money. His college essays were filled with poetic lines such as “I want to join Brown’s CS-Econ program so that I can fundamentally change the state of inequality in this capitalist nation. I will break down the systems from the inside. Also my uncle works at Morgan, and he’s preeeeetty dope.” It was no surprise when he was accepted Early Decision into Brown’s CS-Econ department.
His mother cried tears of joy upon hearing of his nomination. “I couldn’t be more proud,” she said. “Watching him, I almost believed he actually wanted to change the world through venture capital! He is remarkable. I just hope he remembers little old me when he lands a role as Finance Bro and gets to drive down Wall Street in a Lamborghini!”
His Emmy acceptance speech was equally moving: “I accept this Emmy today on behalf of the thousands that have come before me, the men of Brown University who fought tirelessly to preserve the fantasy of using our knowledge for good. I want to give special recognition to my peers in “Socially Responsible Investing”—it should be you standing up here for your incredible performances. Here’s to our hard work, and the Tribeca apartments we’ll pay for with our first Goldman paychecks.”
Caring About CS-Econ airs on FOX Tuesday’s at 8/7c.
