The Rib to Accept Male Members
PROVIDENCE – The Rib of Brown will begin accepting cisgender male applicants for staff positions.
As an organization that is constantly striving to educate themselves, they have come to the conclusion that men have been silenced for too long and need a platform. Particularly in the comedy industry, male voices have been cast aside. (Some statistics have shown that men make up a paltry 85% of standup performers.) It has become clear that male voices need to occupy even more space in the world of comedy.
The Rib seeks to push against the long held and prejudicial belief that “men are not funny” by elevating these voices.
By adding cisgender male voices to the publication, loyal Rib readers will have the chance to be exposed to different perspectives and content that they might have otherwise been ignorant to, such as the high percentage of ex-girlfriends that are “crazy” and the cultural impact of Call of Duty.
