Opening Instagram on October 3rd was a rude awakening, and while I get that everyone loves their significant others very much, there are plenty of other things to celebrate. National Boyfriend Day was a day full of insufferable Instagram stories and people who’ve known each other for five days pretending to be soulmates. Don’t get me wrong, I love mine very much, but there are just better things to celebrate.
Here, I have curated a list of other important national days on October 3rd – providing story content that actually might be worth posting instead.
1. National Techies Day, which encourages students to consider a career in technology. Unfortunately, internships and return offers are looking questionable as of late (I’m looking at you, Zuckerberg), so now might be a great time to explore being a phlebotomist, animal trainer, solar photovoltaic installer, or other fast growing job.
2. World Temperance Day, which encourages people to give up alcohol and learn about the history of temperance movements around the world. Not the most popular thing to celebrate on a college campus, but I promise, your liver will thank you. She’s working overtime and needs a break. Maybe drink water for a day just to remember what it tastes like.
3. Mean Girls Day. On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was. It’s October 3rd. Just October 3rd. Nothing special about it. You should go sit with them today. On Wednesday’s, we should all wear pink.
5. National Kevin Day. Although on second thought, maybe this one doesn’t need any social media attention at all. Someone whose name is unironically Kevin definitely doesn’t need a day designated to them. (unless they are Kevin G., Math Enthusiast/ Badass M.C. from Mean Girls) (see above).
Some bonus story content ideas:
1. Videos of you crying to “All Too Well” (10 Minute Version) or singing “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” at the top of your lungs or all the other Midnights prep that has been locked away in your close friends story.
2. ~Aesthetic~ sunset pictures. Or sunrise, if you happen to be awake at that time. Special props if you wake up just for the picture and then go right back to your beauty sleep. I’d watch the story anyway.
3. You!! You’re beautiful just the way you are. Why not share that with your 2,027 followers who you obviously know in real life? Better yet, post a screenshot of your BeReal that you definitely did not pose and time.
Something was going around this year on October 3rd, a 24-hour epidemic of people posting their man with a random plate of food or cheek kiss selfies and various colored heart emojis. I trust, however, that next year will be better, and that we’ll have more diverse story content. The bfs will never see it coming.
